Remembrance for L.J.A. 'Jack' Dewar at the Ancre British Cemetery

We then headed to this small cemetery situated in the middle of No-Man's Land. Jack Dewar was a Second-Lieutenant in the Royal Marines Light Infantry and he was killed late in the battle on November 13th 1916. Pupils looked at the picture of the First XV of 1914-15 and were shocked when they realised that 7 of them were not to survive the war, 7 boys and their coach who would have played on Doncaster close only 2 years before losing their lives on the Somme. In total 70 Old Oakhamians lost their lives in the conflict.
