Vimy Canadian National Memorial

Our last visit was also the most spectacular. Vimy Canadian Memorial symbolises the sacrifice of those who were fighting here at the top of the ridge. The attack began on Easter weekend 1917 and the ridge was taken in the space of four days by the Allied armies who had learned the lessons of the Somme. Pupils also learned a lot and eventually visited some preserved trenches and realised how close the front lines sometimes were.
